Tla-aas Youth Stewardship Program

The purpose of this project is to engage youth in stewardship and ecology through hands on learning in their own backyard. This year's summer camp was the first one, and not only did we all learn a ton about the intertidal, but we had a lot of fun. The project included a beach cleanup, eelgrass mapping and monitoring, eelgrass diversity beach seine, and shellfish collection (mussels) intended for testing for microplastics. Through these projects, we hope to encourage long-term monitoring of the Tla-o-qui-aht traditional territory. Thank you so much for all kids who came out to join us and for all the help from our hard-working volunteers and our sponsors!

Stay tuned for a short film about the program put together by local videographer Mark McKeough at On the Beach Motion Pictures
